  3. There are some bad developer habits you should never have. These habits can negatively affect your productivity and output. By knowing these habits, you'll be able to avoid them and ensure your future success as a software developer. Listed below are some of the most common bad developer habits. Avoid them at all costs! Read on to discover the top 10 developer habits not to have! You'll thank yourself later!

    Accepting suggestions from other colleagues
While it is tempting to use your ego to make everyone happy, this attitude will hinder your productivity and impede your learning process. If you want to become a great developer, you need to learn from others' code. Perez argues that it is better to admit your mistakes than to act like an arrogant jerk. It is also important to take feedback from others.

Writing code that you don't need
Write as little code as possible. This is what good developers do, and it makes them stand out among other coders. Rather than spending time cleaning up code, concentrate on what you can do with it. This way, you'll catch bugs before they start. Here are a few examples of code that you don't need to write. Let's face it, code is the enemy of any good developer.

    Multitasking
Many people think that multitasking is a good habit. This is untrue; you can get more work done by doing one thing at a time. People who are good at multitasking even brag about it. But, in reality, multitasking is a bad habit that makes you less productive. Even while eating, people are distracted with their phones. They have no idea what they are eating!

The reason why multitasking is a bad habit for aspiring developers is because it kills your creativity. To innovate, you need to give your brain some breathing space. Without this, you'll never produce your best work. Companies are constantly replacing employees that can't innovate and take a step forward. Moreover, it leads to career problems, as it causes you to jump between different tasks. It also prevents you from focusing on one topic at a time.

Overconfident about the quality of a software product
Overconfidence about the quality of a software product is not a healthy habit for a good developer. In addition to creating poor software products, overconfidence can also lead to poor product design. This habit is especially harmful for new software developers. Rather than assuming that their skills are sufficient to create high-quality software products, developers should instead strive to continually improve their skills and knowledge.

Overconfidence is a bad habit for a developer, because it prevents them from delivering a reliable software product. This attitude is harmful because it limits their ability to learn and ultimately makes them dislike their own work. It also hinders the ability to gain knowledge from their peers. As a result, developers often end up losing customers, resulting in poor software products.

    Not apologizing for mistakes
Adding "sorry" to your questions is a bad developer habit because it erodes your self-confidence and makes you appear unprofessional. Apologies that are repeated too often are also likely to come across as insincere and unprofessional. In addition, they muddy the message and obfuscate your true intent. Instead, admitting your mistakes and shortcomings will demonstrate your humility and self-awareness, and if you're working on a project with others, this habit will establish your credibility as a reliable software engineer.

To avoid this habit, study your own behaviours. Do you apologize too much? Are you overly self-critical? Do you often take the blame for mistakes? If so, you need to change the way you behave and focus on the desired outcomes. Avoid apologizing for minor mistakes, but do apologize when you do make mistakes. This is an unhealthy habit that can lead to professional mediocrity and discourages innovation.
